Whether it's your first tattoo or you've lost count, questions are normal. Here's everything we get asked on a regular basis - honest, straightforward answers, no fluff.

BOOKINGS & WALK-INS
Do you take walk-ins?
Yes - walk-ins are welcome at both studios. Pop in and see who's available. That said, if you have a specific artist or style in mind, booking ahead is always the smarter move.
How do I book an appointment?
Online via our website is the easiest way. You can also DM us on Instagram or call the studio directly. All bookings require a $100 deposit upfront.
Can I book a consultation before committing?
Absolutely. If you've got a bigger piece in mind and you want to talk it through first, book a free consultation. There's no pressure and no cost involved.
What if I want to book with a specific artist who isn't listed?
Send us an email at kayagardentattoo@gmail.com or visit the artist's portfolio page for their direct booking link.
DEPOSITS & CANCELATIONS
Why do I have to pay a deposit?
The deposit secures your time slot with your chosen artist. It's not an extra charge - it comes straight off the total cost of your tattoo on the day. It's just how we protect everyone's time.
What's the deposit amount?
$100 for all appointments.
What happens if I need to cancel?
If you cancel more than 1 week before your appointment, we'll refund your deposit in full. Cancel within 1 week and the deposit is forfeited. For late cancellations (under 48 hours) or no-shows, we may require an additional $100 deposit before rebooking you.
Can I reschedule?
Yes, with at least 48 hours' notice. Rescheduling with less than 48 hours may result in losing your deposit - check with the specific artist you've booked with, as policies vary slightly.
PRICING
How much does a tattoo cost?
It depends on the artist, size, complexity and placement. Most of our artists start from $200 per hour. Full-day sessions (6 hours) are $1,200. Flash pieces have fixed pricing that varies by design. We'll always give you an estimate before anything is confirmed.
Is there a minimum charge?
The studio minimum is $150 for small, simple designs.
How do gift vouchers work?
Purchase a voucher in any amount through our online shop. Bank transfer the amount, email us proof of payment at kayagardentattoo@gmail.com and we'll send you a digital copy or post a physical voucher. Vouchers are valid at both studios.
BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT
What should I eat before my appointment?
Eat a proper meal within 4 hours of your session start time. Getting tattooed on an empty stomach is a bad idea - you're much more likely to feel lightheaded or unwell. Bring snacks for longer sessions.
What should I wear?
Wear something that gives easy access to the area being tattooed. Getting your ribs done? Wear a loose top. Ankle tattoo? Skip the skinny jeans. When in doubt, layers work well.
Can I drink alcohol the night before?
Please avoid alcohol for 24 hours before your appointment. Alcohol thins your blood, which affects how the ink sits and makes healing harder on your body. We'll reschedule if we think you've had too much before coming in.
Can I bring a friend?
Yes - one support person is totally fine, especially if it's your first tattoo. Space in the studio is limited so we ask that you keep it to one person.
Do I need to bring ID?
Yes - please bring valid photo ID. We need to verify your age before tattooing you.
AGE & ELIGIBILITY
What's the minimum age?
You must be 18 or over. No exceptions - not with parental consent, not with a letter, not under any circumstances. This is both our policy and a legal requirement in NSW.
Can I get tattooed if I'm pregnant?
No. We don't tattoo anyone who is pregnant, for the safety of both you and your baby.
STUDIO INFO
Is the studio accessible?
Both studios are located up a single flight of stairs. The Dulwich Hill studio is one level above a café on Marrickville Road. The Haymarket studio is on Level 2, 92 Hay Street. Unfortunately, there is no lift access at either location.
Where can I park?
Dulwich Hill: street parking on Marrickville Road and a free 2-hour car park just around the corner on Seaview Street. Haymarket: Capitol Square car park on Campbell Street is the closest paid option - public transport is recommended.
Are your inks vegan-friendly?
Yes - all of our inks are vegan and cruelty-free.
Do you do cover-ups?
Some of our artists specialise in cover-up and rework. We recommend booking a consultation first so the artist can assess the existing tattoo and give you an honest picture of what's achievable.
Do you offer touch-ups?
Touch-up availability varies by artists. Please reach out directly with the artist through their booking page.
